Recycle for sight
Douglas and District lions are encouraging people to donate unwanted reading and sight spectacles which can be recycled to third world countries, along with good cases which can be recycled to third world countries, helping people with poor eye sight who normally could not afford to purchase spectacles.
The spectacles are collected by Lions members and dispatched via DPD couriers to MEDICO LIONS CLUBS de FRANCE in Le Harve. The Lions facilities in France, were created in February 1978, in the first tear 5,000 pairs of glasses were accepted, and today over 3million are accepted annually. MEDIC is the International humanitarian arm of the Lions clubs in France. Its activities are in 58 countries on 5 continents. In La Harve the spectacles that are in perfect condition are cleaned, calibrated, identified and bagged so that the missionary doctors and eye clinics can meet the needs of patients. The imperfect glasses are
repaired and follow the same procedure. The spectacles are then distributed to wherever the need is greatest.
